To Start Up companies, Micro, Small, Medium and Large Enterprises can apply for guidance, advice and funding to government support agencies. Billions of government aid, grants and loans are available. These business initiatives are managed through a number of government departments, state agencies and joint ventures with third parties.

The Multilateral Investment Fund of the IDB Group is the leading provider of technical assistance for the private sector in Latin America and the Caribbean. The MIF, or FOMIN as the fund is known in Spanish, is also one of the region’s biggest investors in microfinance and venture capital funds for small businesses. Projects to be financed should increaseaccess to finance, markets and capabilities and basic services.
JamPro Trade & Investment Jamaica
JAMPRO is an Agency of the Government of Jamaica’s Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation that promotes business opportunities in export and investment to the local and international private sector. In facilitating the implementation of investment and export projects, the organization is a key policy advocate and advisor to the Government in matters pertaining to the improvement of Jamaica’s business environment and the development of new industries.
EXIM Bank Jamaica
The National Export-Import Bank of Jamaica (EXIM Bank) is Jamaica’s premier trade financing institution and the Caribbean’s first Export-Import Bank. It plays a fundamental role in national development by providing a wide range of financing instruments at competitive interest rates for the country’s productive sector. It aims to assist in the growth of this sector and to contribute to the development of the wider national economy.
The Self Start Fund (SSF) was established in 1983 to provide loans for small and micro enterprises. Its mission is to “assist Government in the promotion of human development through self-help and self-employment”.

The Ministry of Labour and Social Security
The Labour Division of the Ministry commenced operations in 1938 as an Employment Bureau. The Bureau was the first official response to growing unemployment, which was spreading throughout Jamaica during that period.
The relationship between employer and employee at the time was one of master and servant. This gave rise to grave economic disparities within the population as most persons received low wages and had poor living and working conditions.

The Ministry of Justice
The Ministry of Justice (MOJ) is a Government of Jamaica ministerial entity, headed by the Minister of Justice. It was formed at the end of October 2001 when it was separated from the then Ministry of National Security and Justice.
Over the years the Ministry of Justice has been paired and separated from the Ministry of National Security on more than one occasion.
